Ageing and Distressing...

Today I spent a bit of time distressing the roof with a wire brush. I then went out and got a new supply of paints (I'd run out) so that I could get started on the ageing process.

I mixed up a grey wash with some black and white acrylic paint mixed with water.

Then I painted it onto the roof ensuring it got into all the nooks and crannies.

Then I dabbed off the paint with a paper towel. I didn't want to completely saturate the roof with light greay paint. Just to give a silvery sheen.

I'm quite happy with it in general. I'm very much finding my way with this process. I've never tried this before. If anyone has some hints or suggestions I'd be glad to hear them!

funny, we're both working on distressing things at the same time (you with your cottage roof and me with Merlin's books in his cottage.) :)

Looks good. I like how there are a couple spots that are more distressed than the rest. Makes it a little more realistic. I've never really done much distressing before...but it looks like you're doing it right.

Looks great, Paul. Check out -- I give up! I just spent a loooong time trying to find these amazing miniature house makers, a married couple on the East coast of the US, who make, without a doubt the most incredibly realistic miniatures ever. The precision, and yet the love of enchanted detail, is of the chart. They used to make and sell their own blend of what they called "bug juice"--GAH! That keyword did it! I found them...

YAY1 That was really bugging me--hee

Thanks for the comments guys!

Michael - I really like your distressed books for the Arturian project. They have a lot of character! :o)

Shelley - Thanks for the link to the couple. Someone actually linked me to them back when I was sticking the shingles to the roof. Their work is truly amazing! But I had forgotten all about their bug-juice, so I'll go check it out again... Thanks so much for the reminder! :o)

Justin - Thanks for stopping by. It means a lot that you like what I've been doing. I need to get my skates on though!

Just wanted to congratulate you guys on getting to the finishing line on your project (good luck with the final cut) and also wish you the absolute best of luck with the festival submissions... You guys have worked so hard - You deserve every success!
